New look for Gmail rolling out as the default interface.
The new look for Gmail will begin rolling out as the default interface starting Tuesday, January 3, 2012, and will continue through the end of the week. After this period, the new look will become permanent. Administrators are encouraged to use the one-time switch in the control panel to opt-in users and control the timing of the transition.

Google has expanded access to several administrative APIs—including the Admin Audit API, Admin Settings API, SAML Single-Sign On, and the Reporting API—to all Google Apps editions. Previously limited to Business and Education customers, these APIs allow administrators to perform bulk changes to users and settings, retrieve usage statistics and storage quotas, and manage group memberships across their domain.

The Gmail app for iOS has been updated with several new features. Users can now set a custom signature and configure a vacation responder through the app's settings. Labeling has been improved with support for nested labels, and a new notification sound has been added for iOS 5. Additionally, users can now send e-mail messages as drawings using a new scribble icon, which sends the drawing as a PNG file attachment.

Google has made the new interface permanent for Google Docs, Docslist, Spreadsheets, and Sites. Key changes to the Documents List include a new icon for the Upload button, revised access to 'Narrow by' options via the search box, and a new template creation flow. For Docs, Spreadsheets, and Sites, the Share button now manages sharing and visibility, the Save button has been removed due to continuous saving, and a new navigation button replaces the Google Docs logo for returning to the Documents List.

Gmail delegates can now RSVP to calendar events on behalf of the account owner.
Users with delegated access to a Gmail account, such as assistants or PAs, can now RSVP to calendar invites on behalf of the account owner. This is done by clicking 'Yes', 'No', or 'Maybe' within the first section of the invite message in Gmail.

Gmail has introduced deeper integration with Google+, enabling users to add contacts to circles and view recent Google+ posts within the People Widget. Admin sharing settings now apply to secondary and resource calendars.
Google has updated the administrator control panel so that sharing settings now affect secondary and resource calendars in addition to primary calendars. Mobile device management functionality for Google Apps is now available in all supported languages.
Google Apps Mobile Management, a set of device management controls integrated into the Google Apps control panel, is now available in all supported languages. This functionality allows administrators to manage Android and Google Sync devices (including iOS and Windows Phone) using granular policies at the organizational unit level, device activation controls, a device console for visibility, and usage reports in the Reports tab.
