The account setup flow for user-owned devices running Android 5.x (Lollipop) has been streamlined. Employees no longer need to manually install the Google Apps Device Policy app from the Play for Work store; the app will now be automatically installed and activated during setup.

Easier setup and management for company-owned devices running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

Google has introduced a new option in the Admin console to manage company-owned devices running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). When enabled, the Google Apps Device Policy app is automatically installed, allowing for full device management (MDM) and application management (MAM). Admins can now require passwords, remotely wipe company information, approve apps, and restrict wireless/network settings, sharing settings, and factory resets.

Hyperlink text and shapes in Slides Android app

Users can now insert new links and edit existing links for both text and shapes directly within the Google Slides Android app using the toolbar and context menu.

Paste special feature added to Sheets Android app

The Sheets Android app now supports the 'Paste special' feature, enabling users to copy content and paste only specific elements such as values, formatting, formulas, data validation, or conditional formatting, as well as the ability to transpose content.

View existing filters in the Sheets Android app

Filters applied to data in Google Sheets on the web are now visible within the Sheets Android app, providing users with clarity on whether they are viewing filtered content.

Hide toolbars and headers when scrolling or zooming in Sheets Android app

The Google Sheets Android app now automatically hides toolbars and headers when a user scrolls down or zooms in on a spreadsheet, allowing more of the content to be visible on the screen at once.

Superscripts and subscripts support in Docs and Slides Android apps

The Google Docs and Slides Android apps now allow users to create superscript and subscript text using the text formatting palette.

Google introduces the Roles API for programmatic admin role management.

Google has launched the Roles API as part of the Admin SDK Directory APIs, enabling developers and admins to programmatically create, assign, and update admin roles. Previously, these management functions were only available through the Admin console UI. This API allows for the development of internal and third-party tools that can provide selective access to Delegated Admins for specific administrative capabilities, such as user management or mobile device management, and allows for the programmatic creation of role assignment reports.

Google Apps Single Sign-On now supports SAML 2.0 and enhanced OIDC for cloud services and custom apps.

Google is enhancing its OpenID Connect (OIDC) Identity Provider support and adding SAML 2.0 support for over 15 popular SaaS providers, including Salesforce, Workday, and Dropbox. Additionally, admins can now easily add custom SAML and custom OIDC app integrations, allowing employees to use their Google Apps credentials as a single login for multiple cloud applications, reducing administrative overhead.

Request access to files with the Google Drive Android app

A new version of the Google Drive Android app allows users to request access to Drive content links received via email, Hangouts, and other sources when they do not already have permission to view the file.

Google Drive iOS app now supports backing up and sharing photos and videos from the iOS Photos app.

Updated version of Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook (GAMMO) released.

Google has released an updated version of Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook (GAMMO) that adds support for Windows 10 and Click-To-Run editions of Outlook 2013 and 2016. The update introduces migration via the Gmail API, support for Service Account authentication, and the ability to collect crash data. It also includes fixes for email migration resilience against throttling, correct migration of empty folders as labels, and proper handling of Outlook's Deleted Items folder.

New domain management features added to the Admin SDK

The Google Apps Admin SDK now includes new domain management features via the Customers API and Domains API. These updates allow administrators and developers to programmatically swap the primary domain with a secondary domain and add or remove domains and aliases, providing a superset of the capabilities available in the Admin console's Domains page.
