Google Workspace Changes

Users can now create, preview, and edit files directly in the Gemini app chat, including slide decks, spreadsheets, documents, and PDFs.

Google is introducing new ways to create and refine files and code in the Gemini app. Users can generate, preview, and edit files right within Gemini app chat—expanding to full screen to type edits directly, highlighting text to ask questions, or having Gemini refine them. PDF preview and editing is supported on both web and mobile, while all other formats (documents, spreadsheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code) are supported on the web only. Users can generate slide decks and open them in Google Slides or download as PPTX/PDF, build and export Google Sheets, and edit documents and PDFs with inline edits on web or full-screen view, plus upload to Drive.

Immersive explorations are now available in the Gemini app, offering an interactive, visual way to explore topics layer-by-layer.

Google is introducing a library of immersive explorations in the Gemini app, giving users an interactive, visual way to explore topics layer-by-layer, from microscopic systems to deep space. Users can access the library in the Gemini student hub by clicking "Try immersive explorations" and will soon be able to access these explorations directly in a chat conversation with Gemini. Each scene unfolds into interactive nodes with guided explanations, allowing users to tap a layer to dig deeper, and audio narration will be added soon. The feature is available on web and mobile in English, Indonesian, Hindi, Brazilian Portuguese, French, and simplified Chinese, with other languages receiving an English-only experience for now.

Gemini Notebook is now available as a Connected App in the Gemini app, allowing users to manage and query notebooks using natural language in chats.

Gemini Notebook is now also available as a Connected App in the Gemini app, enabling users to manage and query notebooks directly within chats using natural language. By typing @Gemini Notebook, users can create, edit, or delete notebooks; add, update, or delete sources; list notebooks and their sources; and answer questions using notebook context. Gemini can also automatically detect when to use the Connected App. The feature is ON by default for Rapid and Scheduled Release domains and is available now globally, except in the European Economic Area where it is OFF by default. It is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.

Gemini Notebook adds guided customization and review controls for Slide Decks and Video Overviews, giving users more creative control over content and visual style.

Gemini Notebook now provides a step-by-step creation flow for Slide Decks and Video Overviews instead of jumping straight to final output. Users can steer content, guide visual style and format, preview slide deck outlines or video producer notes with written feedback before generating, or choose a quick first pass without review. The feature starts in chat or the Studio panel and rolls out gradually to Rapid and Scheduled Release domains beginning October 16, 2026.

A new centralized "customize" hub in the Gemini app lets users configure skills and connect apps to tailor how Gemini responds and integrates with tools.

Google has introduced a centralized "customize" hub in the Gemini app, providing a single place to tailor how Gemini responds and connects with tools. Users can configure custom skills and prompt preferences to handle repetitive tasks, preserve tone and voice, or enforce specific response structures, and connect more than 40 external services plus Google apps. The hub is rolling out globally across web, mobile, and desktop for all user tiers, with connected apps and third-party integrations manageable by admins in the Admin console.

Google Workspace administrators can now enable external sharing for Gemini Notebook with granular controls, including Trusted Domains, allowing notebook creation and assignment across different domains when sharing with trusted domains is enabled.

Admins can turn on external sharing for Gemini Notebook via the Admin console, setting controls at the domain, OU, or group level, and specifying Trusted Domains. This lets Classroom users create and assign notebooks even when teachers and students reside in different domains, provided those domains are marked as trusted and sharing with them is allowed. Gemini Notebook external sharing is off by default and can be managed through the Help Center.

Gemini Notebook in Google Classroom now provides AI-powered insight summaries for educators, showing overall engagement, common themes, and individual student chat transcripts.

Following the launch of teacher-led Gemini Notebook in Google Classroom, Google is introducing insight summaries powered by Gemini. Teachers can view an overall summary of how students engaged with assigned notebooks, a sample of common themes such as frequent questions, strengths, and suggested support areas, and individual student chat transcripts for additional context. This feature is only available for Gemini Notebooks assigned through Google Classroom, and students receive a notification that their conversations are visible to their teacher.

Export interactive apps from the Gemini app directly to Google Sites with one click.

You can now export interactive apps built in the Gemini app directly to Google Sites. With one click, your app is added to a new, private site draft — fully interactive and ready to customize. From there, you can add more content, publish the site, and share it just like any other Google Site. This makes it easy to share your creations with team, customers, or students, with no code to copy and nothing to rebuild.

Skills in the Gemini app begin rolling out on October 13, 2026, with completion expected by mid‑November.

As announced, skills in the Gemini app are starting to roll out today (October 13, 2026) to both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains, with a gradual rollout expected to finish by mid‑November 2026. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts. Upcoming capabilities include the ability to share Gemini app skills and an integration with Google Drive, which will be announced separately. There are no admin controls for skills in the Gemini app, but end‑user guidance is available in the Help Center.
