To help protect your privacy and ensure intentional communication, we are introducing a new caution notification in Gmail. This feature is designed to prevent accidental information disclosure by alerting users when they are about to 'Reply All' to a thread where they were originally BCC'ed. Previously, users might inadvertently reveal their presence on a confidential thread by hitting 'Reply All' while BCC'ed. With this update, Gmail will now display a prominent warning prompt to confirm your intent before the message is sent to all recipients, ensuring that your participation remains private unless you choose otherwise.

New refinement capabilities allow custom editing with Help me write in Gmail.

Users can now edit and revise their email drafts in Gmail via the prompt bar using custom refine instructions in Help me write, moving beyond the previous preset options like Polish, Formalize, and Shorten. They can provide precise follow‑up prompts in their own words and undo or redo any edits. The feature is rolling out now for both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains, with completion expected by July 20, 2026, and is available across Business, Enterprise, Consumer, Education and other editions.

Delegated Gmail accounts are now accessible on Android and iOS mobile devices.

The Gmail app for iOS and Android now allows delegates to read, manage, and compose emails on behalf of a delegator directly from their mobile devices. This update enables delegates to switch between their own and delegated inboxes, view unread message counts, use the 'All inboxes' view to see intermingled emails, and send messages that include 'sent by' information, removing the previous requirement to use the web interface.

Gmail end-to-end encryption (E2EE) has been expanded to Android and iOS devices, enabling Gmail client-side encryption (CSE) users to securely compose and read encrypted messages directly within the Gmail app. This update allows confidential handling of sensitive organizational data on mobile devices, ensuring compliance and data sovereignty. Recipients, whether using Gmail or other email services, can seamlessly and securely interact with these E2EE messages, with non-Gmail users able to read and reply in their native browser.

Help me schedule in Gmail is expanded to support group meetings, allowing users to easily set up meeting times with multiple guests.

The "Help me schedule" functionality in Gmail, previously limited to two-person meetings, now supports group meetings. This update enables users to coordinate meetings with multiple internal and external guests directly from the Gmail compose window. Gemini in Gmail detects scheduling intentions, proposes ideal time slots based on calendar visibility, and allows users to edit the guest list. Once a recipient selects a time, a Google Calendar invite is automatically sent to all participants.

Gmail increases attachment sending limit to 50MB and receiving limit to 70MB for Enterprise Plus customers.

Google is increasing the file size limits for sending and receiving emails for Enterprise Plus customers to support high-fidelity file sharing. Users can now attach files up to 50MB directly to an email, doubling the previous 25MB limit, and the total incoming message size limit has been increased to 70MB. This update is admin-configurable and aims to reduce context switching and improve interoperability with external partners who do not use Google Drive.

Proofread your email with Gemini in Gmail now available to additional Workspace plans.

The Proofread feature, powered by Gemini in Gmail, helps users refine their emails by suggesting improvements beyond basic spelling and grammar, including conciseness, active voice, sentence structure, and word choice. This feature, initially launched for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, is now being extended to additional Workspace plans. Workspace customers will also receive promotional access to higher usage limits, with per-user limits potentially applying afterward.

Emoji reactions in Gmail will be enabled by default.

In 2025, the ability to react to emails in Gmail with emojis was introduced. Initially an opt-in feature for early customer access, starting February 9, 2026, emoji reactions in Gmail will be enabled by default for all Google Workspace customers. Organizations wishing to disable this feature can do so in the Admin console.

Gmail data classification labels now allow admins to add custom header or footer messages to emails for data loss prevention (DLP).

Google has expanded Gmail's data classification functionality, enabling administrators to create Data Loss Prevention (DLP) rules that automatically add customizable header or footer messages to email messages. Footer messages are particularly significant as they are visible to external recipients, ensuring they are aware of the message's sensitivity and any specific handling requirements. These DLP rules are applied to outbound emails based on configured scope and conditions. Headers and footers are visible across all device types, both within and outside the domain. While classification labels are only visible to internal domain recipients, the new header/footer messages provide a broader communication mechanism for data sensitivity.

New integration allows users to easily share emails from Gmail to Google Chat direct messages or spaces.

A new integration between Gmail and Google Chat improves team collaboration by enabling users to share email conversations directly from their Gmail inbox to a Chat direct message or space. Users can initiate a chat with existing email recipients, a subset, or a new group, with the email automatically forwarded and accessible via a link in Chat. This feature facilitates real-time discussion in Chat while preserving the original email context, reducing the need to switch between applications.

Gmail client-side encryption users can now send end-to-end encrypted emails to any recipient, even if they use a different email provider.

Recipients can securely access the encrypted messages via a guest account, simplifying secure communication by eliminating the need for key exchange or specialized software. This feature aims to reduce IT complexity and improve user experience while maintaining strong data sovereignty, privacy, and security controls. This feature is available for Google Workspace Enterprise Plus with the Assured Controls add-on.

Sender avatars now available in Gmail notifications on iOS devices.
