Starting August 7, 2025, audit logs for specific Google Meet hardware settings like 'Release channel' and 'Alert recipients' will transition from being logged under 'Chromebox for meetings device setting change' to 'Change Application Setting,' 'Create Application Setting,' or 'Delete Application Setting.' This update is part of Google's effort to remove outdated product references and streamline the audit log experience. By August 28, 2025, these logs will solely appear under the new 'Application setting' categories.

Google Meet "Take notes for me" now offers granular sharing controls for meeting hosts.

Google Meet has introduced new sharing controls for the "Take notes for me" feature, allowing meeting hosts and co-hosts to specify the recipients of the meeting notes. Users can now choose to send notes to all invited guests, only invited guests within their organization, or exclusively to hosts and co-hosts. The default setting is "Invited guests in your organization." Once configured, this sharing preference will apply to the specific meeting and any recurring meetings in that series, providing greater flexibility in managing sensitive meeting information.

The email notifications generated by the "Take notes for me" feature in Google Meet have been enhanced. These emails will now provide a summary of the meeting and "suggested next steps" in addition to the direct link to the notes document. This aims to give meeting invitees a quick and helpful overview of the meeting's key takeaways in a single place, improving the utility of automated meeting notes.

Improved Google Meet hardware admin log events now offer more granular details and a new event category for better tracking and troubleshooting.

Google Meet is enhancing its hardware administration log events within the Google Workspace Admin console. The deprecated 'HANGOUTS DEVICE SETTING' event category is being replaced by a new, more precise 'GOOGLE MEET HARDWARE' event type. This update provides administrators with a more comprehensive audit trail, including granular device-specific information like device ID, resource IDs, and device type, for actions such as changing lifecycle state, OU membership, device properties, performing bulk actions, and running commands on Meet devices. This increased visibility aims to improve an organization's security posture and facilitate more effective troubleshooting of Google Meet hardware issues.
