Starting September 14, 2026, the Google Meet homepage on the web displays conference room and physical meeting location details directly on upcoming meeting cards. For meetings with multiple rooms, the system prioritizes the room in the user's working location (set in Google Calendar) and highlights it. Clicking a room opens wayfinding or campus maps, while offsite addresses open Google Maps for turn‑by‑turn directions. Location details are prominently shown for meetings happening now or starting soon (<10 minutes) and appear on hover for later meetings, with an overflow button for multiple locations. No admin or end‑user settings are required; the feature uses existing building and room resources from the Admin console. Rollout is gradual over up to 15 days, beginning September 14 for Rapid Release domains and September 28 for Scheduled Release domains, and is available to all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers.

Users can now connect to Google Meet hardware by entering a 5‑character room code on their personal device.

Google Meet hardware adds a manual connection method via a 5‑character room code shown on the hardware screen. Users see a 'Connect with room code' button on the pre‑call screen, allowing them to input the code when ultrasound‑based proximity detection is unavailable or disabled. The feature is enabled by default for both Rapid and Scheduled release domains, with a gradual rollout starting September 15, 2026 (up to 15 days for full visibility), and admins can toggle it at the device level.

Automatic room check-in for Google Meet now available on Android and iOS mobile devices using ultrasound proximity detection.

The feature, initially introduced to Rapid Release customers in Early Preview Rooms in January 2026, is now rolling out to all Google Workspace customers with Google Meet hardware. It uses ultrasound signals detected by the phone or tablet's microphone to automatically check users into a meeting room when they join in Companion mode, eliminating manual steps. Admins can enable or disable proximity detection at the room level, and users can still check in manually if needed. The rollout began on September 9, 2026 for both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains, with Android completion expected by September 10 and iOS gradual visibility up to 15 days (ending September 24).

Google Meet hardware on Android/AOSP can now join Microsoft Teams meetings, and vice versa, in Early Preview.

The update introduces built-in interoperability between Google Meet hardware devices running Android/AOSP and Microsoft Teams Rooms, allowing users to join Microsoft Teams meetings from Google Meet hardware and Google Meet meetings from Microsoft Teams Rooms devices. Available in Early Preview for Rapid Release domains, the feature rolls out starting August 31, 2026, with completion expected by September 7, 2026 for Rapid Release, while Scheduled Release domains see a similar start date. Admins can disable the feature at the organizational unit level, and end users can follow Help Center instructions to join third‑party meetings.

Google Meet room hardware is transitioning from ChromeOS to Android (AOSP) while ChromeOS support continues unchanged through September 2030.

Google is shifting its Meet hardware portfolio to Android to accelerate feature delivery, broaden device choices, and increase flexibility, working with partners like Logitech, Neat, and HP Poly. Existing ChromeOS devices will remain fully supported with security patches and updates until September 2030, and manufacturing end dates for ChromeOS hardware are set for early 2027 (Logitech/CTL in Feb 2027, ASUS in Apr 2027).

Google Meet now lets presenters add a co‑presenter with one click via Gemini suggestions.

Previously, adding a co‑presenter in Google Meet required multiple manual steps. Now, Gemini intelligently suggests a co‑presenter in the Ask Gemini in Meet panel, and with just one click the main presenter can allow another user to co‑present their Google Slides presentation. The nudge appears only for the main presenter on Chrome or Edge when a participant uses a trigger phrase like “Can you please add me as a co‑presenter?” or “Next slide please.”
