Google is expanding the availability of the SecOps data connector to customers using Google Workspace for Education Plus and Education Standard. This feature allows organizations to seamlessly forward activity logs from Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and other Workspace services into the Google SecOps platform to enhance threat detection, streamline incident response, and maintain compliance archives.

Starting in March 2025, admins who have Additional Services enabled for users under the age of 18 to re-review them on an annual basis.
Admins are in control of which services their users have access to, and to do so in alignment with both our terms of service and local laws and regulations that determine what services are appropriate for users under 18. Since admins manage which services their students have access to, only they can enable or disable access for their under 18 users.

Google Workspace for Education is introducing a new workflow that allows educators and users over 18 to request access to unconfigured third-party apps on behalf of students (proxy requests). Admins can designate trusted users to vet these apps and manage the requests within the Admin console under Security > API Controls > App Access Control, where proxy requests are clearly labeled. This process streamlines app approvals and provides administrators with better control over who can request access for others.

Google Workspace for Education admins now have enhanced controls to manage how third-party apps access organizational data for users designated as under 18. Users under 18 are required to request access to apps that are not already configured as trusted, limited, or blocked, although admins can allow users to skip this request for apps that only require basic profile information. Admins can now configure these settings by organizational units and must review and confirm existing third-party app settings by October 23, 2023, to ensure uninterrupted access for users under 18.

Google for Education transformation reports are now available for K-12 Google Workspace for Education customers worldwide. The current reporting window is open from November 2, 2021, to December 10, 2021. Key improvements include immediate access for super admins upon login without a waiting period, the removal of the requirement to request a report in advance, and the ability to adjust product data windows and expected user counts in real time.

Google for Education transformation reports are now generally available for Super Admins of G Suite for Education and G Suite Enterprise for Education in K-12 districts and schools across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Admins can log in to generate a Fall 2019 report by completing a survey and gathering stakeholder feedback between September 23 and October 9, with the final custom report available for download on October 14.

Google is introducing several new security tools to the free version of G Suite for Education over the next few months. These updates include Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for Gmail and Drive to prevent the sharing of sensitive content, Hosted Gmail S/MIME for digital signatures and encryption, security key management and enforcement for 2-step verification, and the ability for administrators to control user session lengths for services like Gmail and Drive.
