Gmail for iOS now allows adding attachments from the Files app

Users of the Gmail app on iPhone and iPad can now upload attachments directly from the Files app when composing or replying to an email. This is done by clicking the attachment icon and selecting the folder icon within the Attachments section.

Coverage of user indices for Gmail in data regions

Gmail and Calendar construct user indices based on information in their accounts, similar to an index in a library, which lists information about all the books the library has available. This index is used to serve user search queries in Gmail and Calendar. These indices will now be covered by data regions.

Enhancements and configuration changes to multiple inboxes in Gmail.

Gmail is updating multiple inboxes to support independent scrolling for each inbox, a unified action toolbar across all sections, adjustable panel widths for right-side configurations, and collapsible sections. Additionally, multiple inboxes will no longer support the reading pane (formerly preview pane) layout, and the configuration settings are being moved from the 'Advanced' tab to the 'Inbox' tab for better accessibility.

New controls for displaying sender attribution for shared mailboxes

Adding new controls for how the “Sender Attribution for Shared Mailboxes” is displayed. For end users, there’s a new setting in Gmail where you can specify what information is included in the email header of messages sent by delegates. For admins, there’s a new setting in the admin console that allows you to hide all attribution for shared mailboxes in your domain or organizational unit (OU).

Turning off less secure app access to G Suite accounts - Impact to Email

Limiting the ability for less secure apps (LSAs) to access G Suite account data. If you are using stand-alone Outlook 2016 or earlier, you can use G Suite Sync for Microsoft Outlook. Alternatively, move to Office 365 (or Outlook 2019), which support OAuth access. If you are using Thunderbird or another email client, re-add your Google Account and configure it to use IMAP with OAuth. If you are using the mail app on iOS or MacOS, or Outlook for Mac, and use only a password to login, you’ll need to remove and re-add your account. When you add it back, make sure to choose Google as the account type to automatically use OAuth.

Propose a new meeting time or add a note to Calendar invites directly from Gmail.

When opening a Google Calendar invite in Gmail on the web, users will now see a 'More Options' dropdown menu. This menu allows users to propose a new time for the meeting or add a note to their RSVP, which will then open the respective event section in Google Calendar for the user to make the updates directly.

Dynamic email is now available for Gmail on Android and iOS.

Dynamic email brings the richness and interactivity of AMP to Gmail on Android and iOS devices, allowing users to take actions directly within a message, such as responding to comments, RSVPing to events, or managing subscription preferences. This functionality ensures that email content remains up-to-date, enabling users to view real-time information like e-commerce order statuses or the latest job postings.

Ensure that Google Vault captures all emails in your domain

To ensure that copies of all sent or received messages in your domain are stored in the associated users' Gmail mailboxes, you should set up comprehensive mail storage in the Admin console.

Gmail profile pictures are being combined with Google account profile photos for G Suite users.

Google is unifying the profile picture settings for G Suite users by combining the Gmail photo with the Google account profile photo. When users attempt to change their picture in Gmail, they will now be directed to the 'About me' section of their Google profile settings. This change ensures a consistent profile image across all Google apps and gives administrators greater control over photo editability within their domain.

Dark theme support is coming to Gmail for Android and iOS.

Gmail is introducing dark theme support for Android and iOS devices. Users can enable dark theme by setting their device to dark theme in system settings (for Android 10 and iOS 13) or by selecting 'Dark' within the Gmail app's theme settings. This feature is available to all G Suite editions.

The Gmail Offline Chrome app will be removed from the Chrome Web Store after December 3rd, 2018.

This native capability is easier to use and performs better than the Gmail Offline Chrome app, so we’re removing it from the Chrome Web Store after December 3rd, 2018.

Old Gmail routing settings are being migrated to a unified routing section.

Google is migrating old Gmail routing settings—including Sending, Receiving, Catch-all, and Domain-level routing—to a unified routing section in the Admin console. Admins can manually convert these settings using a 'CONVERT' button or wait for automatic migration starting July 11, 2018. Once converted, all routing rules will be manageable from a single location, and the old settings will no longer be visible in the user interface.

General availability of the new Gmail experience starting July 2018.

The new Gmail experience is transitioning from the Early Adopter Program to general availability in July 2018. G Suite administrators will have several options for the rollout: immediately transitioning users, allowing users to opt in, or waiting four weeks before users can opt in. Users who have not transitioned will be automatically migrated approximately eight weeks after the GA announcement, and the option to opt out will be completely removed twelve weeks after the launch.

Gmail introduces 'nudging' to remind users to respond to or follow up on emails.

Gmail now includes an AI-powered 'nudging' feature that reminds users to reply to emails they may have missed and to follow up on emails for which they haven't received a response. This feature is enabled by default for users with the new Gmail enabled, though it can be turned off via the Gmail settings menu.

G Suite admins can now define rules to handle Gmail confidential mode messages sent from consumer users.

G Suite administrators can now create content compliance rules to manage incoming Gmail confidential mode messages sent from consumer Gmail users to users within their G Suite domain. This allows admins to block or handle these messages by selecting 'Gmail confidential mode' as an attribute under 'Metadata match' in the Admin console.
