Google Vault now allows administrators to manage data retention and litigation holds for the Gemini app on web and mobile. Admins can create default and custom retention rules for finite or indefinite periods, as well as place litigation holds on specific organizational units or users. These Vault settings take precedence over Admin console and user activity settings, ensuring that data is preserved for regulatory and legal eDiscovery requirements even if users delete their conversations.

Google is extending multi-party approvals (MPA) to Google Vault to enhance security for sensitive actions. This feature requires a separate, authorized administrator to review and approve certain actions, such as creating exports, before they are executed. This helps prevent unauthorized or accidental changes, significantly reducing the risk of data exfiltration or unapproved data deletions.

Google Vault now supports the Gemini app for all Google Workspace for Education customers.

More options for exporting your Google Workspace data are available in open beta

Admins can choose from several options when exporting their organization’s data. Specifically, they will be able to: Export data from all or multiple services. This update is available in open beta, which means no additional sign-up is required.

Google Vault support for client-side encrypted emails

Vault now supports retention, search, and export of client-side encrypted emails. Note that admins can't preview the email body and attachments, including inline images — they’ll only be able to see the subject line, sender, and receiver.
